An East Hartford landmark celebrating 66 years in business, Augie and Ray’s offers breakfast, lunch, and early dinner seven days a week in a pristine, classic diner environment decked out in vintage stainless steel flashing, hand-lettered daily specials boards, and plenty of comfortable seating. The expansive short order grill rapid fires area breakfast favorites like egg scrambles with ham, peppers, and cheese and egg sandwiches with pepper or pastrami all day. Hot dogs are grilled to crispy perfection, served on a buttered, toasted bun, and served with or without the diner’s signature chili. The menu offers many tasty specialty burgers named for area politicians and other Augie and Ray’s regulars; like the Big Mark Schein-burger, a 5-ounce ground beef patty with American, Swiss or provolone cheese, fried onion rings, bacon and either horseradish or barbeque sauce, namesake of Augie and Ray’s regular and Goodwin college CEO Mark Scheinberg. Pile up Augie’s Doggies and grilled to order burgers with choice of fresh, chopped onions, peppers, sauerkraut, hot sauce, and more at the diner’s fixings and condiments bar. Augie’s milkshake machines mix up old-fashioned milkshakes to order from real milk and real ice cream.
